Jan Oystein Aksnes and May-Britt Aksnes encouraged Aurora to take up music, not for a job or as hobby but as a way to improve. The singer began to write the songs she wrote herself. She has cited renowned songwriters Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as inspirations, and also an affinity for Bjork's style. Her decision to begin performing the songs she wrote publicly after her mother suggested that they can help other people, not to gain fame with her music, but rather to help the people around them understand the significance of what they do and how they impact the world. Her first piano lesson was when she was just 6 years old and began writing music when she was nine. She didn't tell her family about it until the age of fourteen. Aurora isn't something she imagined as a child. Aurora claims she loves writing songs. According to her, music is the most effective way to convey anything.
